Arnold Newman, American photographer (b.1918-2006), was known best for for his ability to capture his subject in their native setting, in doing so, exposing the very essence of their work and their personality to the viewer. This technique later became known as ‘environmental portraiture’ and ensured Newman was remembered as one of the twentieth century’s most prolific portrait photographers.

Having captured many of the great artists, writers, politicians and personalities of the time, Newman ensured that his twentieth century peers, will, too, stand the test of time.
